I’m usually pretty easygoing about Winter, but by the end of February even I’m starting to need a break. Since it was just barely late enough for me to start a few of the seeds that need the longest before the first frost, out came the seed starting supplies and in came the first taste of Spring!

In which the author is aware that she is being ridiculous, but is still compelled to garden.

This first round are hot pepper seeds. These are a new experiment for us this year. I had heard that they could take up to a few weeks to start sprouting, but ours came right up.

There’s nothing fancy about what they are growing in, just dollar store seed trays and cake pan lids at this point.

They do have their own shelf though. We put up inexpensive led lights, though I have heard that fluorescent shop lights work too if you keep them close to the plants. We did buy some seed starting mats for warmth this year. Some of the seeds we want to grow (like these hot peppers) are unlikely to start without them.
