This is all I have talked to anyone about for the past week, so now it’s your turn to hear all about it.

In which the author would like to introduce the very first baby quail they ever hatched.

We incubated 48 quail eggs a few weeks ago. When we candled them partway through, about half looked like they were developing.

18 eggs started to hatch. Of those, 15 were healthy and made it through both hatching and the first few days. Not too bad of a hatch rate for our first time.

 

They grew really quickly, and only stayed soft and fluffy for a few days. You can see a better view of their feathers coming in below:

They are very sweet and make the cutest shuffling and peeping sounds. I was worried that we would find them noisy indoors, but that really hasn’t been the case.
