The last little envelope with this year’s seeds has come in the mail this week. It feels a bit like Christmas!

I have moved quite a distance since last year’s garden, so who I ordered from is a little bit different this year. My favorite seed companies are usually small local ones. I figure that the closer the seeds are grown to where I am actually planting them, the better chance I have that they will be well suited to my climate.

In which the author would like to inform you that she is much too obscure to be sponsored by seed companies. She is just very excited that her seeds came in the mail.

My first seed company that I want to share is a returning favorite. I have been ordering from Ecoseedbank for three years now and I have been really happy with them. Solid selection of veggies, plus some flowers, berries, etc. I love the packaging, and very tiny seeds are folded into a little paper inside so that they aren’t a nightmare to get out. My only (minor) complaint is that they don’t print the planting instructions on the envelope.

Ecoseedbank is based out of Quebec, so I am about the same distance from them as before I moved. (Though I might have made an exception for them even if I wasn’t, I have always been really happy with their seeds!)

Next up is a new one for me. Little Island Seed Co. is out of PEI. I figured it was a good bet that if they could grow something, then I could to. They also had a good selection of peppers, for the half of my family that likes to burn off their taste buds. (Do I understand the impulse? No. Do I love them enough to devote half of my seed starting space to them? Yes.)

You will find a good selection of peppers and tomatoes, as well as some things like trees and grapevines.

The last company I ordered from is a little farther afield than I usually go. They are out of Ohio. I am starting our gardens again from scratch this year, and needed a slightly larger company that carried everything that was left on my list. I found SeedvilleUSA on Etsy.  They had a pretty large selection and good reviews. I’ll report back how I liked them!

Where do you like to get your seeds from? I have quite the mix at this point! I have only dipped my toes into seed saving, so I have some from my last garden. Some are from friends and family, and some are random packets from the grocery store. We’re definitely not seed snobs over here. If it grows, I’ll plant it!
