There are a lot of wonderful posts about big budget kitchen renos out there. I am sure that you have gathered from the title already that this isn’t going to be one of them. Just because certain things aren’t your top priority to be properly replaced, doesn’t mean that they can’t be improved. You still have to live with them, so if you can spruce them up with only a few dollars and a few minutes of your time, why not?

I which the author shares her controversial hatred of the colour grey in home decor.

This one might baffle a few folks, but I have violently hated this backsplash since the day we moved in. I am absolutely not the sort to rain on anyone else’s parade, but personally I don’t like the trend to make everything grey or black these days, and this is my house. So out it goes!

Except not really, because there’s no budget for “this offends Kathryn’s sensibilities”. We just moved in and are still working on basics like “places to hang coats” and “walls around the last bedroom”. Thinking something is ugly isn’t exactly an emergency at this point.

Stickers aren’t going to break anyone’s budget though! They didn’t arrive looking exactly as I expected (because I paid $5 for them). I was expecting more copper than beige, but they are still a nice pattern. Just having something in a colour that matches the tone of the wood behind makes a big difference in my books.

I actually did this one almost 6 weeks ago, and it is holding up perfectly! I was worried about how they would do being right behind the sink, but even though the bottom ones get wet occasionally they still look exactly the same. This was definitely the cheaper end of the scale,  being flat stickers. There are some 3d versions that are really realistic looking without costing much either. If you rent or just want a quick facelift somewhere, I don’t think this will disappoint!

This project was both cosmetic and practical. One of the casualties of our move was my new (to me) stand mixer. This is one of the few appliances that I keep out on the counter, plus I was worried about rust or scratching it further.

I bought a pack of silly little teapot stickers to cover the damage. I made sure to pick ones that were water resistant, so that I would still be able to wipe it down if I was careful.

The result is a tiny bit chaotic, since I had to place stickers where it was damaged, but I am still happy with it. The stickers will keep it protected for now, and if I ever try to repair it better in the future they can easily be removed. Both whimsical and practical.

Admittedly I am stretching the definition of update a bit with this one…

I updated the cuteness of my pantry? I have no regrets, this makes me ridiculously happy.

Look at his cozy little mouse kitchen! I read too much Beatrix Potter as a child not to appreciate this.

Besides, it turns out that the kids weren’t too old to try to prank anyone who hadn’t seen it with “look, there’s a mouse in the pantry jokes!”.
