I have always had a spice drawer in the past, but my new kitchen has a shortage of drawers. Besides, with spice jars as cute as mine it would be a shame to hide them away.

In which the author realizes that she has more cabinet than spices.

I looked online and in thrift stores but nothing presented itself. Then I saw this and got creative!

While this looks a lot like a spice rack already, it is actually meant to display pool balls. (If you look closely at the shelves they have little divots).

The biggest change I had to make was to remove the felt from the back. I am fairly sure that this was handmade by someone, which worked in my favor this time. The felt was just everyday craft felt and was only secured at the edges. A craft knife was all it took to remove it.

The next item of business was to paint it. It was a very nice colour of wood, but don’t you come after me for painting it. I literally live in a log cabin. Some things need to be a colour.

I just used two coats of spray paint. It was really quick and easy, and I had a whole box of things off of my counter in no time.

What do you think, could you tell that it didn’t start life as a spice rack?
