So if you caught last week’s post, you know that we’ve moved! I know that I only teased the new place a bit, but I’m going to hold out on you a bit longer. (Have mercy, I am tired. So, so, very tired haha!)

Past Kathryn did me a giant favor and wrote this before leaving, so we are still talking about moving boxes.

In which the author shows off a brief burst of supreme organization.

We were in a bit of a strange situation, where most of what we were taking went ahead of us in the moving truck. We helped load it up where we were living at the time, and a family member supervised the unloading on the other end. This was the first time I have ever not been there to direct where each box or piece of furniture goes. To make up for it, I had the best labeled moving boxes of my entire life.
The first thing I did was to go to the dollar store and buy a big pack of multicoloured paper. Then I designated each room/area it’s own colour. Every box or piece of furniture that was going into an area had a label that colour, usually on more than one side. They were big and obvious in the hopes that they could be sorted quickly at a glance. I also did a fairly comprehensive list of what was in each box, since there would be some time before I would be there to unpack them.

I stacked all of my labels by room in a little box. I then added tape, markers, and scissors that were only for packing. This meant that I could pick up my little box and carry it into whichever room I was working in. It also meant that I have everything I needed on hand. No wasting time looking for scissors or my markers. It was honestly a very simple system, but I can’t overstate how much of a difference it made!

So if you are planning a move soon, bust out the kindergarten craft supplies with no shame. It was worth every minute of prep work it takes.
