How happy is this dress??? I love it so much. It is so perfect for summer; lightweight, breathable, and with such a cute print!

It is another adventure in sewing with bedsheets. I used almost the entire sheet, so this dress is pretty long! This is about as long as I like to wear things. Any longer and I start tripping on it, or getting the hem wet or dirty.
I used this tutorial as a guide: https://mariamoller.dk/sy-nemt-din-egen-kjole-med-pufmaermer-begynder-sy-guide/
I didn’t use the measurements she provided, just the approximate shapes. I did mess up a little bit in the shirt I chose to trace for the bodice. I decided after cutting it out that I needed a bit more ease if I wanted to pull it over my head, so my dress has some extra side panels. I don’t find that they look odd or anything, not with the shoulder pieces being a similar shape, but it is something I would correct in a future dress.
I omitted the tie across the shoulders that the original has. This means that my dress technically doesn’t have a front or a back. I really like how the neckline sits in the front, but it is just low enough at the back that my inflexible self can’t quite reach with the sunscreen. A slightly strange standard for some, but I do aim to make my dresses with sunscreen self-sufficiency in mind.
This ridiculous detail is actually the only real complaint that I have about this dress! It is so pretty and happy, and very comfortable to wear. It has pockets, of course.
Oh, I did make one other mistake that I am kicking myself for. I forgot to trace a copy of the sleeves for future pattern making! I was so mad at myself when I realized that. I had just freehand adjusted a similar sleeve pattern and when I liked how the first one looked, promised myself I would trace the second before I sewed it on. Then of course I forgot entirely and just sewed it on. *sigh* Poor future Kathryn’s just going to have to figure it out all over again!
Seriously though, I love this dress. I feel like I should be frolicking in a field of daisies in it.
Hmm… that’s actually a pretty good idea. Anyone have a spare daisy field I can borrow? It would totally be worth shooting new photos in!
