Northern gardeners rejoice! After weeks of watching the rest of the world start their gardening, we can finally think about joining them! After all of the temptation we have resisted, we are officially entering seed starting time. Want to see what I am starting this year?

Despite the temptation to just fill my little “greenhouse” with every variety of tomato I have seeds for, I am actually aiming to have a plan this year.
(Admittedly this decision is based off of the fact that I did exactly that last year, and then proceeded to have the worst tomato growing season I have ever experienced.)
Ok, ok. There will still be tomatoes in there. I am just aiming for moderation. In theory.
I am hoping to set up a semi-permanent shelf of cut and come again salad greens in there, so there goes one shelf. Another is taken up by my kids plant experiments. (Perils of homeschooling).
This leaves me with one shelf for my reasonable number of tomato plants, and one more for anything else I want to start early.
A good chunk of that shelf will be devoted to my nemesis, indigo. I have killed every plant I have tried to grow for the last two seasons, but I refuse to give up! How amazing would it be to have my own indigo plants to dye things with? Definitely worth another try.
The rest of my shelf is for any other flowers or veg that could do with an early start. So far I am thinking peppers and zinnias.
What would you put there? What are your musts for starting indoors? Will Kathryn kill all of the indigo again? Stay tuned to find out!
